STOP 1 OF 3 Β· INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTOR β MANAGER
You were promoted for the work. Now the work is people.
Stepping Up is the first stop on our leadership journey: the move from being judged on what you produce to being responsible for results through other people. It asks more of you than a new set of skills. We build the person under the skill, practise both in real work, and check that it held.
WHAT CHANGES AT THIS STOP
The job changed. Most new managers weren't helped to change with it.
From βmy own output is the workβ β to βmy team's output is the work, and I'm responsible for it.β
From a week spent doing the work β to a week spent planning, delegating, coaching and reviewing.
From being the best contributor in the room β to making the room more capable.
From peers and friends β to people you're accountable for: still warm, now also clear.
From βwho caused this?β β to βwhat's my part in it?β
None of these is only a skills gap. Each has a skill on the outside and something harder on the inside: the pull to take the work back, the fear of getting it wrong, the conversation that never feels like the right moment. We work on both. For new managers, and for those about to step up.
WHAT'S IN THE PROGRAM
One program for your new managers.
Every Stepping Up program starts with a baseline and ends with a re-score. In between, we choose from these, based on what the baseline shows. Each piece can also be bought on its own.
Self-awareness and a shared language
EI Foundations and Above & Below the Line: what fires under pressure, and how to come back. Self-paced, with a live session every month for a year.
Delegation, feedback and the hard conversation
Delegation That Works, Giving & Receiving Feedback and The Conversation You've Been Avoiding, practised in the work your managers already do.
First 90 Days
One-to-one coaching on the new measures of success, with a three-way conversation between each leader and their manager.
Peers at the same stop
Four or five new leaders meeting over months, bringing live problems, so the practice keeps going after the program ends.
HOW WE KNOW IT HELD
A baseline at the start. A re-score at the end.
Each leader completes the Journey Compass before the program begins: ten parts of the shift, what's already working, and the two or three edges worth their attention now. They complete it again as they go and at the end. You get a summary of the movement across the group, evidence you can take back to whoever approved the budget.
Read where it stands β Build the inside and the skill together β Practise in real work β Check against the baseline.
